THE NEXT GENERATION OF REGENERATIVE BIOMATERIALS FOR OPTIMAL OUTCOMES

Program:

9.00-10.00 - LECTURE

  • The concept of scaffold in bone regeneration
  • Naturally cross-linked totally resorbable biomaterials: from barrier membranes to ossifying scaffolds
  • Surgical techniques for optimal outcomes in bone regeneration in different clinical conditions

10.00-12.00 - HANDS ON SESSION ON PIG JAWS AND MODELS

  • Different manipulations of different cross-linked collagen scaffolds
  • Advanced soft tissue management techniques for passive flap advancement and resorbable biomaterials stabilization
  • Surgical technique for resorbable scaffolds to improve buccal plate thickness
  • Surgical technique for resorbable scaffolds in horizontal bone augmentation of severely atrophic ridges
  • Surgical technique for resorbable scaffolds in socket preservation

Learning objectives

  • Understanding the principles of using totally resorbable scaffolds in bone regeneration
  • Learning optimal manipulation of such resorbable scaffolds
  • Learning how to practically perform up-to-date surgical techniques for passive flap advancement and resorbable biomaterials stabilization
  • Learning how to practically perform horizontal bone augmentation and socket preservation with such resorbable scaffolds in different clinical conditions

Cells, signaling molecules and scaffolds are basic elements of the regenerative process, with possible addition of barrier devices. Any scaffold or barrier  surgically added to the natural process of tissue regeneration should be long lasting and totally resorbable, however most of the biomaterials currently used are non resorbable, at least partially, and are therefore less suitable for maintaining a space-making effect for quite a long time.

Resorbable, long-lasting and natural regenerative biomateriale effect both the clinician and the patient – providing the clinician with products that enable optimal outcomes, faster recovery and significantly reduce the need for a repeated procedure. This effects the patient as well as it shortens length of treatment and these products’ higher biocompatibility influences recovery rates and improves biological responses.

During the workshop, Dr. Abundo will present succesful procedures used with innovative ossifying, space-keeping, totally resorbable biomaterials, showing exceptional results that cannot be argued with and the potential of this extraordinary clinical approach in bone augmentation procedures.
